Podcasting Resources

A few people have expressed an interest in the equipment and general set up I use to record the podcast.  If ‘gear’ is your thing, then this page is for you!  I have also included some useful resources if you are interested in starting your own podcast.

This blog post outlines my podcast recording process: Podcasting Workflow.

Here’s the gear…

I use a Zoom H2n Handy Recorder.  What’s great about this microphone is it plugs into your computer as a USB mic, but you can also put batteries in it and take it out and about for mobile recording.  It’s a versatile microphone with a decent sound, and I recommend it.

Microphone Accessories

I also use the Zoom APH2n Accessory Pack for H2n Portable Recorder.  This was an important upgrade for my microphone as the windshield helps avoid ‘popping sounds’ and the stand means the microphone can me opposite my mouth when I record. The case and hand-held attachment are also useful.

I always listen back to the show on headphones.  Mine are Studiospares M1000 Headphones and they sound great.

I host my podcast with Libsyn and rate them very highly indeed.  At the moment I use their app 400 package which includes advanced statistics, a customisable Smartphone App, and enough storage to keep up a short form daily, or long format weekly show.  The package costs US$20 a month, however their hosting packages start from US$5 a month, which is ideal for people just starting off in podcasting.  The best thing about Libsyn is that it’s designed for podcasters so the hosting packages have unlimited bandwidth.

I edit my podcast in Garageband on a 13 inch Apple Macbook.

I found Podcasting for Dummies really helpful when I was getting started.
